Why doesn't Joe Biden care about his legacy?
If Donald Trump returns to the White House, his lengthy career will end in disgrace.
President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is in trouble — the polls keep getting worse. I think it’s fair to say that there’s a 50/50 chance Trump returns to the White House. Betting markets have him losing to the Orange Man. This raises the question: why is Biden willing to risk his legacy by moving forward with an unpopular, ineffective campaign against Trump?
If Biden loses to Trump next November, he will go down in history as one of the worst Democrats and presidents in U.S. history. All of his accomplishments — decades in the Senate, two terms as vice president, and a term as president — will be erased. Voters will remember Biden as “the guy who handed the White House back to Trump on a silver platter.” Across America and around the world, people will blame Biden for everything bad that happens during Trump’s second term. When Americans travel to Europe or Mexico, they’ll be asked why Biden didn’t just step aside before it was too late.
Delusional is a harsh word, but is Biden delusional? Are his aides? His original plan was a single term, but now he insists on fighting for a second, despite voters telling him over and over again that they don’t want him to run again — voters think he’s too old and blame him for traumatic inflation. He insists on fighting for a second term, despite polls showing he is less likely to beat Trump than a generic Democrat. Biden could pass the torch to a popular Democratic governor selected during a competitive primary process and guarantee that he will go down in history as a true statesman who removed Trump from office and led the nation out of a deadly pandemic. But, no, Biden wants to keep going.
I truly don’t understand what the president is thinking, but I believe his behavior is selfish, reckless, and irrational.
